Case Study: Internal Local Strategy in Italy

The GLT activity shows the importance of rural services such as health, social services, education, energy, transport, retail and how they can be improved and made more sustainable through the implementation of information technology (ICT) tools and community actions and projects.

In the 2014-2020 planning period, Italy developed a new comprehensive public policy entitled the National Local Administration Strategy (NSIA).

The NSIA focuses on the outermost and innermost population areas where population aging is more pronounced and lower.

The objectives are job creation, social inclusion and reversal of population decline.

The strategy is based on innovations such as simultaneous investment in service improvement, national and multi-level management and a multi-fund and participatory approach to local development. A wider and more innovative impact can be achieved by combining LEADER Local Development Strategies (LDS) with partnerships, inner areas focused on access to services and LAGs (Local Action Group) for local development.
